EmpowerU Campaign
Secure Steps is proud to launch a nationwide campaign to address the pressing issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) on college campuses. With 1 in 4 female undergraduate students experiencing sexual violence, this campaign seeks to raise awareness, encourage survivors to seek support, and provide students with accessible resources. Our mission is to create a safer and more supportive environment for students by bridging gaps in existing campus support systems and fostering a culture of empowerment and education.
A cornerstone of the campaign is a series of speaker events featuring experts, advocates, and survivors, organized in collaboration with the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). Conducted via Zoom, these events provide an opportunity for students to engage with knowledgeable professionals who can offer valuable insights into IPV prevention and survivor support. The sessions are tailored to the interests and goals of hosting organizations, ensuring a meaningful and impactful experience for all attendees.
Another key component is the development of a resource one-pager, a concise guide offering referrals to clinics, hotlines, and campus resources. Verified by the NDAA, this resource also features the Danger Assessment Tool by Professor Jacquelyn Campbell from Johns Hopkins University. Designed to be easily shared, the one-pager is distributed to event attendees and promoted across campuses through social media and high-traffic areas like libraries and dormitories.
Through this campaign, Secure Steps aims to empower survivors, educate students, and promote safer campuses across the nation. By fostering awareness and providing actionable tools, we take another step toward creating a future free from violence. Together, we can inspire change and support those in need.
